Chilli in Tibetan Medicine

The mention of chile peppers in the "Blue Beryll" is a very interesting case for the adoption of chiles around the world: The Blue Beryll is a text about traditional Tibetan medicine, written - or really, mainly illustrated - between 1750 and 1800.

Chile peppers started their spread around the world with Christopher Columbus, after 1492. So, within 250-300 years, they made their way outside of the Americas, to Europe, and into the Himalayas and their medical lore.
It took longer for apples to get established in all of Europe...

The illustration fits chile peppers; on the other hand, a description of medicinal drugs equates chilli with the root of long pepper - so, maybe there is a misunderstanding because there were not yet as many experiences with the chile peppers?

Then again, the use seems quite specific; for example, a recipe of honey and chile pepper is mentioned as a means of prolonging life...
