Project 2007+ (Asia/Himalayas)
There is an incredible diversity of chile peppers in Asia. Amongst those, varieties from Japan - hardly a place known for spicy food; varieties from the Himalayas - where it's hardly known which varieties are to be found there, and so on.
So, these are the topic of the next project:
Varieties, especially out of the Himalayas, from China and Japan,
and also a few from other places around East Asia.
In the place of honor:
A few landraces from Bhutan!
Information on/from this project is spread out over different parts of the site...
Background info can be found in the sections on Chile Culture and ChilliCuisine,
descriptions of varieties are slowly added in the section on Capsicum (Botany & Varieties).
- Update 2008: 2007/08, due to a move to Latvia, not much happened. Only some photos of varieties were added (see China, Himalaya).
- 2009 promises to be interesting again: I'm in China, the trial cultivation in Austria will be done through a cooperation with Erich Stekovics.
